Jason Steele has been impressed by our Japanese supporters’ knowledge of the club.
Albion play their first match of pre-season on Wednesday as they face Kashima Antlers in the National Stadium in Tokyo, with Steele excited to see the local supporters turn out in their numbers.
“They know everything! They know all the players, they know everyone. A lot of that is thanks to Kaoru [Mitoma] and the platform he's given us over here, but we're so thankful for the hospitality and the welcome we've had so far.
“Everything's been amazing. The welcome we've had, the facilities, it's been fantastic. We're all enjoying it and obviously can't wait to start playing.
“I saw a glimpse of the stadium as we drove in here today and it looks amazing. It was built for the Olympics and unfortunately they didn't get any fans that year [because of Covid]. So it's going to be amazing to play in front of a lot of people on Wednesday and it looks fantastic, so we can't wait to play.”
The goalkeeper was speaking after a visit to the Meiji Shrine in Meiji Jingu, which he found an enlightening experience.
“We've been to the Meiji Shrine and it has been amazing. When you come to visit, it's important that you get involved in the culture and embrace it. I think people like to see that as well, that we're making the effort.”
