Diego Gomez has said that Julio Enciso was one of the first people to text him congratulating him on his first Premier League goal against Tottenham â although the out on loan midfielder didnât think it was quite good enough to make his showreel of goals!
The Paraguayan pair only crossed over briefly at Albion before Enciso joined Ipswich Town on loan in January, but the two are close friends from their time with the national team.
âJulio sent me a message after the game and said it wasnât quite like his goals,â Diego said, âbut fortunately it went in! He congratulated me on the goal.â

The emotion overcame the midfielder, who was tearful after whipping the ball into the top right corner from range, having come on to play as a makeshift striker.
âIt was very emotional for me because I have worked so hard to get this goal. To go in at the end of the season I was very thankful.
âI went on as a nine as the coach asked me to play there. I always try to do my best and fortunately it went as I wanted. It was new for me. It is all new for me here in this league!â
The 22-year-old has made 16 Premier League appearances since he joined us from Inter Miami in the winter transfer window and feels he has learned a lot in his first five months in England.
âThe intensity in the play, I have learnt a lot about this. The play is a lot quicker in this aspect. I have a lot to keep improving. What I most need is to improve is the language.
âI am learning. I have a lot of English classes to learn more quickly and adapt to the culture here.â
