Fabian Hurzeler says today’s opponents Premier League title success in 2016 shows that ‘in football, everything is possible.’
Albion’s head coach was a big admirer of Leicester City’s against-the-odds triumph.
“[It was] a big inspiration, for sure,” he said. “In football everything is possible and you don’t need the highest budget to win something.
“You need to have belief, you need to have courage, you can’t be afraid of something. In some moments you have to be fearless and go forward, you have to react to bad experiences in the right way because, especially in the Premier League, games come so fast, the league is so competitive, and you have to fight for the next result.
“I think Leicester winning the Premier League was an important example for everyone, not only in football but in life.
“I experienced this in my former club St Pauli, and I think it's about finding the sense of community, having a clear culture in the club and a good environment where the players can improve.
“Of course, in some moments of the game, you need individual quality. And when I remember back Leicester also individual quality with [Riyad] Mahrez, [Jamie] Vardy and [N’Golo] Kante. Then they had the German centre-back [Robert] Huth. I remember him very well.”
Hurzeler’s focus is picking up a victory at the King Power Stadium that could lift Albion back into the top six. Leicester beat West Ham 3-1 at home on Tuesday in their first game under new head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy.
“They have quality and played good football even before they changed coach," added Hurzeler. "Against West Ham they were very effective and took their chances. They scored some nice goals. It will be interesting to see how ready they are.
“But we need to focus on our team’s performance. It’s up to us to break their good start and get the points we lost on Thursday.”
