Gilmour: Break has come at a good time

Midfielder believes next two weeks are an opportunity for Albion to reset after fourth draw in our last five Premier League games.

Billy Gilmour believes the international break has come at a good time for Albion.

A third successive Ames draw against Sheffield United on Sunday left us eighth in the Premier League table with a third of the season gone.

Albion were in control thanks to Simon Adingra’s fourth goal of the season but Adam Webster unluckily put through his own goal moments after Mahmoud Dahoud picked up a straight red card, Albion’s first dismissal in a Premier League game since Lewis Dunk’s dismissal at Old Trafford in February 2022.

“It felt like we were in control right up until the red card, that did change the game,” admitted Gilmour. “They got on top until the end so it felt like two points dropped. In the first half we could have taken our chances better. One goal was good, but we had other opportunities.

“It’s frustrating of course. I think there have been a couple of games like that this season.”

Albion were without eight players against the Blades because of injury and several players including Gilmour are linking up with their countries with Gilmour in the Scotland squad for their final two Euro 2024 qualifiers this week.

But the midfielder believes it’s a chance for the squad to reset. “We know we’re capable of going again and again, but we have got a lot of injuries and it will give us the chance to regroup and that should help us,” added Gilmour. “We look forward to welcoming them back into the team and then going again after the break.”
