New head coach got a positive impression on Albion from one of our former players.
Dario Vidosic coached former Albion defender Rebekah Stott during his time at Melbourne after the New Zealand international returned to the Australian League last summer following her second spell with Albion.
He says he had positive conversations with Stott before signing a three-year contract.
“Stotty is a terrific person. She was my captain last season and was someone I leaned on throughout the year,” he said.
“She told me it was a terrific club and that the people are fantastic. She said I would love it over here and was very complimentary about everyone and everything.”
Dario began his coaching career in Melbourne City’s boys’ academy before being given the opportunity to work with his father Rado in the women’s first team.
“I went into the academy space with the boys [at Melbourne City],” he said. “There was then an opportunity to work with my father who is a very good coach. I felt I could learn a lot from him.
“To be able to see what he was doing was a fantastic learning opportunity for me, especially as a young coach going into it. He then moved across to become the men's first-team head coach. I became the women’s caretaker head coach and I then got the opportunity to take over permanently. I was kind of thrown in at the deep end, but I absolutely loved it.”
Dario led Melbourne City to the A-League title last season in his first season in charge and narrowly missed out on the Grand Slam final after they lost to Sydney FC.
“Once you win something, your names are etched in history. No one can ever take that away from you,” he added.
“But I don’t really look back on my time there and just think about winning the premiership or even that we lost the grand final.
“It’s the little things, like how we played or the everyday goings on and working with the players. I loved to watch them improve and see them get the opportunity to go overseas and chase their dreams, much like I did when I was a player.
“Everyone has got different ambitions and I'm sure the girls at Brighton are no different.
“I loved working with the girls in Melbourne, they were a terrific group. I learned a lot as a coach and as a person, but I’m now looking forward to learning even more and getting to know my new team.”
