Dario Vidosic was happy with a job well done after Albion began their League Cup campaign with a 3-0 win over Birmingham City at St Andrew’s on Wednesday.
Guro Bersgvand, Maisie Symonds and Fran Kirby were on target in the second half as Albion bounced back from Sunday’s WSL defeat at Manchester City.
“It was a good night. We made eight changes with some players coming back after injury and the hard thing is we only had one day to prepare and implement our ideas,” said the head coach.

“We tried a couple of things, and it was very pleasing overall. Maisie’s free-kick was spectacular and it was nice to score different goals. We controlled the game from start to finish but it was a good learning for us against opposition who sat in a low block waiting for those transition moments to hit us on the counter.”
Albion are back in action again on Saturday when they host Aston Villa in the WSL – their third game in six days.
“It’s about trying to find that balance,” added Vidosic. “We rotated the squad but we wanted to start well in the competition and do well in this Cup. We’ve spent close to 15 hours in a bus over the last few days but we prepared well and it will be more of the same for Saturday’s game against Aston Villa. That will be another different test – they are a tough opponent.”

Symonds is making a habit of scoring great free-kicks after finding the top corner to double Albion’s lead.
“I stood over the ball with Marisa [Olislagers] and said ‘I’m just going to shoot’ and luckily it went in. Perhaps it’s becoming my signature goal now!” she said.
“Birmingham made it really tough for us. They were hard to break down but once we got the first goal and moved the ball more quickly the chances came it ended up being a good win. There was lots of rotation so it was good for players to get minutes, especially in a busy week with another game to come on Saturday.”
