Head coach Shannon Ruth had no complaints after watching our Men’s U21s lose 2-0 to Burnley at Turf Moor in the Premier League Cup on Saturday.
Albion were hoping to extend their winning run to five games but goals from Tom Tweedy midway through the first half and an own goal on 61 minutes by Freddie Simmonds, who turned Bradley Grant’s cross into his own net, made sure the Clarets took over at the top of Group G in front of a crowd of 782.
Albion had their chances. Cam Peupion twice went close in the first half, Josh Duffus’s angled effort was saved midway through the second period and late on Caylan Vickers saw his shot cleared off the line.
Ruth said, “It was a good football lesson for the group - when you are doing well the game can hurt you and that was the case.

“Just maybe we had a little bit of complacency after a strong week; we were a yard off it and Burnley deserved to win. They were a good opponent who ran hard and were motivated to go top of the group.
“It could have been different if we’d taken our chances but maybe we took our good form coming into this game for granted.
“So it’s a good lesson. We need to be able to keep our foot on the accelerator when things are going well. We thought we could just turn up and play well and that wasn’t the case.”
