Non-League Day, which began in 2010, is an annual celebration of the football pyramid and returns on Saturday.
It encourages as many fans as possible to support their local non-league sides on a weekend of international football when there is no Premier League or Championship action.
Albion fans looking for a game locally can find a fixture on Saturday near their postcode by clicking here. https://nonleagueday.co.uk/map/ The Premier League has provided £23.6 million over four years to the National League and its 72 clubs. Through the Premier League Stadium Fund, more than £207 million in grants has been awarded to over 1,000 men’s and women’s clubs throughout the English Football League, National League and football pyramid.
The history of Non-League Day
Non-League Day was set up by James Doe in 2010 as a social media experiment, after being inspired by a pre-season trip to Devon to watch Queens Park Rangers play at Tavistock.
It has now grown to become an annual part of the football calendar, backed by Premier League and Football League clubs, MPs, celebrities, media organisations, charities and most importantly the non-league clubs themselves and the fans who turn up on the day.
Coinciding with an international break, Non-League Day provides a platform for clubs to promote the importance of affordable volunteer-led community football while giving fans across the country the chance to show support for, and maybe discover, their local non-league side.
Many non-league clubs are almost exclusively volunteer run, with money taken at the turnstiles often funding thriving youth set-ups, projects and facilities which are of benefit to the whole community. The level of skill on offer at non-league grounds might not be the same as at the higher leagues, but there are other sides to the experience, from which the smaller club will always win hands down.
With ticket prices realistic, you can often stand (and drink!) anywhere in the ground and will always be guaranteed a warm welcome by people who run their clubs for a love of the game.
Non-League Day also partners with charities to promote health issues around the game including Prostate Cancer UK and NHS Blood & Transplant.
