Men’s under-21s boss Shannon Ruth is expecting his team to show a positive response after Tuesday's Premier League Cup defeat to Luton Town.
Three second-half goals for the Hatters knocked Albion out of the competition, with Ruth’s team back in action tonight as they take on Everton in Premier League 2 at Southport FC.
The head coach understands why his team weren’t at their fluid best against Luton, with his squad much changed after a busy transfer window.
“It was a tough night and probably a big ask for a lot of young players who came into the group for the first time. For some of them, that'll be their first taste of under-21s football," said Ruth.

“They wouldn't have been aware that they were part of the squad until the transfer window closed [on Monday night] as we had players leaving on deadline day.
“We had seven scholars in the squad and all seven featured, so it was a really good test for them.
“I thought for large periods we had really good control but didn't hurt Luton’s goal enough and probably lacked a little bit of concentration which led to their three goals.
“It was good learning for the young players and they've got another game now to try and make amends and show progress.

“That's the key – what can they show? I'm not expecting tonight to be perfect, but I'm looking for a good reaction from Tuesday.”
Imari Samuels, Cam Peupion, Ruairi McConville, Ed Turns and Marcus Ifill all lef permanently, while Louis Flower and Caylan Vickers headed out on loan during the window.
“It's going to take a little bit of time for the new players to get up to speed, but we're really optimistic and that's part of what we do and how we operate.
“We always look to optimise the loan pathway and Gordon [Greer] and Sam [Baldock] have done an incredible job in helping secure some wonderful opportunities for our players.”
