Charlie Tasker is relishing the opportunity of playing under-21 football this season after making the step up from our under-18s.
Charlie has been part of our academy since under-9s and joined Shannon Ruth’s squad this summer.
“The step-up has been a smooth transition,” he said. “All the 21s really welcomed us 18s and the atmosphere has been really good around the players; I have had some good experiences.
"There’s a big difference between Premier League 2 and Premier League South (the under-18s' league), but you get used to it. I had an opportunity with the under-21s last year playing in the cup matches which I enjoyed.
“We ended last season very well in the under-18s and that help us hit the ground running when we came into the under-21s.
“I really enjoy working with [coaches] Shannon Ruth and Gary Dicker. I feel they complement each other really well. Shannon does the in-possession and Gary does the out-of-possession work. They have a really good chemistry.
“Harry Mills and I watch full-backs clips after every game to see where we can get better. I also love the in-possession stuff. Shannon helps me with how I can get more assists and more goals.”
The under-21s are back in PL2 action this afternoon (4pm) when they take on Wolves at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre, and will be hoping to build on last Sunday’s 4-0 win at West Brom.
Tasker’s immediate aim is to help Albion get three points today, but he also has some long-term ambitions too. “I really want to get into the England under-19 squad. Obviously, it's a big target, but hopefully it's something I can achieve in the future.”
