The EFL was a hub of action for our young players out on loan over the Christmas period.
Sheffield Wednesday began 2024 in a Championship relegation battle, so a comfortable 11th place in the second tier to end the year certainly seems like progress has been made. A 3-1 defeat for James Beadle’s Owls to Preston North End though sees the calendar year end on a bit of a dampener.
The mid-term report of MK Dons would also read major improvement after they found themselves near the bottom of League Two after a shaky start to the season, with Scott Lindsey’s arrival from Crawley marking an upturn in form. Tom McGill was unable to keep a clean sheet in Milton Keynes’ 1-1 draw with Crewe though.
In the Premier League, Leicester City who suffered a fourth consecutive defeat. Facundo Buonanotte played for 90 minutes in their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, leaving the Foxes third from bottom.
In the second tier, Andrew Moran played 71 minutes as Stoke City won for the first time in ten games, beating Sunderland 1-0 at home under interim boss Ryan Shawcross.
Amario Cozier-Duberry played for 84 minutes in Blackburn’s surprise 1-0 defeat to Hull, while Jeremy Sarmiento came on for the final 25 minutes of Burnley’s 0-0 draw at Middlesbrough.
Odel Offiah helped keep a clean sheet in a goalless draw with League One leaders Birmingham City, making a goal-line clearance late on to ensure his team took a point at St Andrew's.
Samy Chouchane's Northampton drew 1-1 away at Shrewsbury.
