There was FA Cup success and shock in equal measure for our players out on loan.
Goalkeepers
Comfort Erhabor kept a clean sheet for Plymouth Argyle as the Green Army strolled to a 6-0 win over Poole Town in the Women’s FA Cup first round. That has setup a second round Devon derby against Exeter City.
Kjell Scherpen’s Sturm Graz drew 1-1 with Rapid Vienna in a top of the table clash in Austria – with midfielder Malick Yalcouye also in action for Graz – while back on English soil, the weekend wasn’t quite as enjoyable for James Beadle as Sheffield Wednesday were beaten 6-2 by Watford.
Defenders
Odel Offiah helped Blackpool keep a clean sheet in 2-0 Emirates FA Cup win over Gillingham, with the Tangerines drawn against Birmingham City in the next round.
Valentin Barco an unused sub in Sevilla’s 2-0 defeat to Real Sociedad, while Li Mengwen also didn’t come off the bench for West Ham in their 2-1 WSL defeat to Tottenham
Midfielders
Samy Chouchane and Northampton Town suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat to Kettering Town – Samy played 71 minutes for the Cobblers. It wasn’t a great weekend for Grimsby or Port Vale either, as they were beaten by Wealdstone and Barnsley, respectively. Luca Barrington played for half an hour for the Mariners, while Benicio Baker-Boaitey got 60 minutes for the Valiants.
In better news, Kamari Doyle scored and assisted for Exeter City in their 5-3 win over Barnet – the midfielder is up to three goals for the campaign for the Grecians.
In league action, Andrew Moran helped Stoke to a first win in five as they beat Derby County 2-1 at home, while Facundo Buonanotte and Leicester City added another point to the tally as they drew 1-1 with Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
Burnley have now gone three without a win following their 1-0 defeat to Millwall. Jeremy Sarmiento came on for the last 30 minutes for the Clarets.
Libby Bance an unused sub for Bristol City Women in their 4-3 Women’s Championship defeat to Sunderland.
Forwards
Ibrahim Osman scored what proved to be the winner in a 3-2 victory for Feyenoord against AZ Alkmaar, while Mark O’Mahony came on for final 23 minutes of Portsmouth’s 1-1 draw with Hull.
Another success story came in the Women’s FA Cup, as Clarabella Hall came on for the last ten minutes of Watford’s first round win over AFC Wimbledon, before a 4-2 win on penalties was required after a goalless 90 minutes.
