Our men’s under-18s were on the wrong end of a 4-3 scoreline as they were beaten by Leicester City on Saturday in Lancing.
The visitors took the lead after five minutes when Luqman Aideed rounded off a sharp counter-attack, but Albion levelled thanks to Tyler Silsby’s brilliant free-kick from 25-yards.
The Foxes responded quickly though and went in at half-time 3-1 up. Bless Akolbire scrambled the ball home from close range before Bismark Owusu slotted home impressively in the 44th minute.
Albion looked to claw their way back into the game with 20 minutes to play. Silsby sent the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot as he found the bottom right corner to make it 3-2 – but Leicester restored the two-goal cushion in stoppage time as Lorenz Hutchinson tapped in.
Theo Outen’s late thunderbolt from the edge of the box into the top corner would prove to only be a consolation goal, to leave Albion seventh in Premier League South.
Under-18s head coach Arthur Brammer said, “We stayed in the game at moments when it could have got away from us and I thought we showed excellent character to come back from a deficit and play some good football.
"I am proud of how the boys took the game to Leicester and showed a real togetherness.
“We do need to be better in defensive transitional moments as we conceded soft goals from our own possession.
“But I thought we played some excellent football again. It's definitely a result that I know we will build on going into next Saturday against Southampton.”
