Our men’s under-18s lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace in Premier League South on Saturday.
Zack Henry gave the visitors the lead after 20 minutes, before Ben Casey added a second for the Eagles with an hour gone.
Head coach Inigo Calderon said, “Given the rivalry, a 2-0 loss against Palace is a bad day in itself. The only good thing is, we have to learn quickly because we play against Newcastle in the FA Youth Cup next and I know the importance of the competition.
“The Palace game was a great lesson because we were actually good in the first half – we were better than them.
“Then we conceded the first goal and afterwards we collapsed a little bit. In football, you have to be stronger than that because at some point, even if you feel you’re better than the opposition, they can hurt you.
“You have to keep doing the things you think are best ar and I think we stopped doing that. In the second half we were not us – it was difficult. So I would like to be positive because I think we can learn from the game.
“It's going to be a great lesson for everyone. We have to rest and recover because we have a special week ahead.”
