Kamari Doyle has called on Crawley Town supporters to ‘believe’ the Red Devils can avoid relegation from League One.
The midfielder netted a brace in their 4-0 win over Rotherham – which marked Steve Evans’s last game in charge of the Robins – to move Crawley to within six points of safety, having been 12 points adrift just a fortnight ago.
“I think the fans just need to stick by us,” Kamari said after his brace. “We definitely believe and I think they should as well.
"It’s not going to be perfect from now until the end of the season, but I truly believe we can get the results we need and achieve our goal.”
Elsewhere in the third tier, Caylan Vickers scored in the opening minute of Mansfield Town’s 2-1 win over Inigo Calderon’s Bristol Rovers, while Odel Offiah’s Blackpool made it four wins from their last five games as they beat fellow play-off hopefuls Bolton 2-1.
Luca Barrington also had an enjoyable weekend with Grimsby Town in League Two, setting up the Mariners’ winner in a 2-1 victory over Colchester United.
Slightly further afield – and across the North Sea – Ibrahim Osman came on for the final 20 minutes of Feyenoord’s 3-2 win over Go Ahead Eagles. Albion fans will be pleased to know Jakub Moder scored his first goal at De Kuip as Feyenoord climbed up to fourth, as they made it six unbeaten in the Eredivisie.
A draw for Sturm Graz still kept them top of the Austrian Bundesliga. First team regulars Kjell Scherpen and Malick Yalcouye started as they were held 1-1 by Wolfsberger.
PSG are Ligue 1’s runaway leaders, but Strasbourg seem to be coming to the boil at the right time as they chase Champions League football. Valentin Barco got an assist in their impressive 4-2 win over Lyon, making it four consecutive league wins for Liam Rosenior’s team, and six in their last seven.
The Scottish Challenge Cup final ended in disaster for Ben Jackson, as he started for Queens Park in their 5-0 defeat to Livingston. The weekend wasn’t much more enjoyable for Hannah Poulter in the Women’s Championship with Portsmouth, as they were thumped 6-0 by Durham.
In Non-League, Harry Lee played the full 90 minutes as Gosport Borough drew 1-1 with Wimborne Town, while Lorenz Ferdinand made his debut for Havant & Waterlooville, as they scored two late goals to beat Marlow 3-1 away.
Named in matchday squads but not coming off the bench were Abdallah Sima (Stade Brest), Jeremy Sarmiento (Burnley), Amario Cozier-Duberry (Blackburn Rovers), James Beadle (Sheffield Wednesday), Mark O’Mahony (Portsmouth), Andrew Moran (Stoke City) and Comfort Erhabor (Portsmouth Women).
