Fabian Hurzeler admitted the 1-1 draw against Southampton was what Albion deserved.
Albion did climb to second in the Premier League by dint of their better head-to-head record against Manchester City but there was a sense of anti-climax at the Amex after Kaoru Mitoma’s first-half goal was cancelled out in the second period by Flynn Downes' equaliser.
Hurzeler said, “Disappointment is part of football. Negative experiences are part of the process and we didn't deserve more today; so we have to keep improving, keep pushing and try to be better in the next game.
“We have to be more consistent in our performance during the 90 minutes - being more ruthless with the chances we had, because I think in the first half we had enough chances to win the game and we didn't take them. Then we were not clear enough, not stable enough to defend or concede a goal.
“It is still too early in the season, and we shouldn't focus on the results but more on the performances. Today was not our best performance.
We have to be honest to ourselves that this can't be our identity, this can't be our style of play. And our home fans, we have to apologise for the second half and we have to be very critical with ourselves.”
