Fabian Hurzeler praised James Milner’s ‘amazing’ contribution to his first win as head coach as the midfielder set another Premier League record in the opening-day win at Everton.
The 38-year-old has now played in 23 consecutive seasons in the Premier League, beating Ryan Giggs' record which spanned from 1992-2013. The German was just nine years old when Milner made his Premier League debut in November 2002.
“I'm amazed by the character from this player,” said Hurzeler after Albion’s 3-0 win.
“And I know now why he had this success in his career. He’s an unbelievable character and he's a leader. He's a role model in things like preparing for every training session and doing good regeneration after training.

“He takes care of his teammates and he always sees the values of the club. So James is an unbelievable character. I'm very happy to have him in the squad. And on top of that, he's still a great player.”
Hurzeler was well aware what beating Everton would have meant to a former Liverpool player too.
“It was a special day for him, playing in Liverpool against Everton,” he added. “I know a little bit about the rivalry, so I think he was very motivated today and he made a great performance.”
