McLauchlan: Albion is an ambitious club
Scottish defender is fully invested in Albion's vision.
Rachel McLaughlan joined Albion from Rangers in summer 2024.
We caught up with one of our latest signings Rachel McLauchlan, who has joined Albion from Rangers.
Rachel, how do you feel after becoming an Albion player?
“A lot of excitement! I've met some of the staff and players and it seems like a really nice place to be. I'm looking forward to getting started now and looking forward to the new season."
What were some of the main pull factors for you to join us?
“I’ve heard what the league is all about and seeing the facilities that Brighton has for the women’s team alone is inspiring. It’s a very ambitious club that wants to improve and keep working in every area. That excites me as a player - hopefully, I can add to the squad.”
What were your initial thoughts when you first saw the facilities and the investment that the club are putting into the women's side?
“The investment shows how much they want to grow and improve. It's a very exciting thing as a player. The facilities are unreal down here, the pitches and everything they have. What they can provide for you as a player is really good.”
You’ll be competing in the WSL, arguably the best women's league in the world, how much does that excite you as a player?
“I can't wait. I want to improve and grow. I've still got years to do that, and I think from talking to the coaches they can help me. To play in this league is very exciting and playing against some of the best players is only going to help me and I'm really excited for the new challenge.”
It's a demanding league. Is that an environment that you thrive in?
“Absolutely. As a player, I want to play in hard games, challenging myself each weekend. It’s really exciting and I'm looking forward to it.”
You've competed in Scotland for a number of years. You've won many titles at different clubs. Are you excited to bring that winning mentality to this side?
“I'm hoping I can come down here as a new player and bring that with me. I think all players would agree that they want to win week in, and week out. I'm just really excited to give that my best shot.”
As a defender, how would you describe your style of play?
“I like putting tackles in and being that vocal player. I do like the attacking side too, supporting the play and having that aspect to my game. It helps me as a player as well, having both sides of that.
How much are you looking forward to building roots down here outside of football?
“I've been down here a couple of days and it's been nice to see around Brighton. It's a lovely place to be so I'm excited to do the touristy things. Obviously, Scotland's not too far away but it's completely different. Even the weather's nice to get outside a wee bit more. I am really excited to look around and see what it's all about.”
