Tony reflected on a busy transfer window, Fabian Hurzeler’s appointment and the key to Albion’s long term success.
“I think one of the main things is long term planning,” the chairman explained. “ People who get involved in football clubs, it's often the here and now, it's the first team, it's the players, and ‘don't worry about their ages, don't worry about the transfer fees’, it's just getting promoted or getting into Europe.
“I take a different view, I take a long term view. You've got to do it in small steps, incrementally, look to continue to improve in all aspects.
“You can do that in lots of small steps, but over a number of years you can get into a much, much stronger position.
“The other key thing is obviously bring in the right head coach and the right players and it's easier said than done. But that's where we spend a lot of time because if you've got the right players and not just top ability, but the right characters, that will take you a long way.
“That helps everything else of the football club. That helps if the football club is doing well, that helps bring fans in, helps revenues, helps commercial, more partners want to be involved with you.
“So it really starts with the first team players, but then that helps with everything else, including the whole academy where we've invested for many, many years. And we're starting to get lots of fruits of that investment.”
