Following the success of the exhibition ‘Brighton & Hove Albion: A First Year in Europe’ that opened in October 2024, we are delighted to announce that the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery will become the home of a permanent gallery dedicated to the history and stories around the club and its connection with the city and fans.
The new gallery will open for the start of the 2026/27 season, coinciding with the club’s 125th anniversary celebrations.
The club’s museum at the American Express Stadium closed during stadium redevelopments earlier this year, and the opportunity for a permanent space in the city for the key collection is something that both the museum, the club and the club’s historical society are delighted to announce.
Feedback from fans and visitors attending the A First Year in Europe exhibition has exceeded expectations, so much so that the opening was extended by four months to accommodate demand and interest.
The permanent display will be curated collaboratively between the club and Brighton & Hove Museums, celebrating the stories, milestones and the new generations of fans that now call Brighton their team.
Brighton & Hove Albion Chairman Tony Bloom said, “This is a wonderful opportunity to tell our Sussex and global visiting fanbase about the journey that the club has been on, re-live some of the milestones and history we continue to make and celebrate 125 years of the club.”
Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Paul Barber said, “This long-term presence in the city reflects how important the club and its fans are to each other and the culture of the city as a whole. We are delighted that this permanent home, that is so accessible to the city and our visiting support, will be a defining part of telling the club’s story and preserving our heritage and history to a wider audience.”
Brighton & Hove Museums CEO Hedley Swain said, “Brighton & Hove Albion are as much part of the city’s lifeblood and history as the Royal Pavilion and our Royal past. It is absolutely right that the club’s incredible story is told in Brighton Museum & Art Gallery. We are honoured and excited to be working with the club on this project and look forward to the gallery opening in 2026”.
Brighton & Hove Councillor, Ty Goddard said, “As we turned the Royal Pavilion lights blue and white on that important day for the club, when the Albion played in Europe for the first time; another idea was born – the club in the city – and the club museum in the city’s museum. My heartfelt thanks to all those who have made this partnership happen.”
Opening August 2026.
