The workshop was brought to life by experts from Football For Future who delivered an interactive and engaging workshop that enabled participants to learn more climate change and explore solutions to the climate crisis. The attendees finished the workshop with a tour of the training ground from the club’s sustainability manager to learn about some of the sustainability measures the club has implemented already.
Football For Future’s founder Elliot Arthur-Worsop helped to deliver the workshop and was impressed with the attitude displayed by the group.
"We had a lot of fun working with the Brighton academy players, discussing all things to do with football, sustainability and climate. The boys had great knowledge about the big-picture challenges and mechanisms driving global warming, and impressively applied this to football by thinking about their own experiences both on and off the pitch.”
The under-12s were enthusiastic throughout the session and showed considerable thought and creativity when coming up with their own solutions, one of which even included a recycling themed goal celebration which particularly impressed the Football For Future team.
Our U12s came up with a goal celebration based around recycling at the workshop.
“We loved their creative thinking about ideas the club could do to become more sustainable, and we look forward to working with them again to continue this important conversation,” added Elliot.
The workshop was not only important for raising awareness of climate change but also for providing academy players with a well-rounded education and an understanding of the world we live in.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s sustainability manager Tom Harris attended the training and gave a tour of the training ground to show how the club implemented measures such as solar PV, rainwater collection and reuse system and the club’s commitment to purchasing food from local suppliers.
Harris said, “This workshop delivered by Football For Future is a great example of how football can inspire and educate the next generation to take action on climate change and show how they be a part of positive change. The workshop was excellent and the group was engaged in the topic throughout.”
