Mikey Harris said he was 'super proud' of his players even though his first game as interim head coach of Albion's women's team ended in a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.
Two goals by Nikita Parris settled the contest but Harris saw plenty of positives.
"We’re disappointed because we felt like we could get a positive result," he said. "I have spent 48 hours with the group and after the game I thanked them for trying to put into practice what we worked on. We will assess this game and look to grow as a group for however long I am in this role.
"We tried to press Man United high and dominate the ball and in the first half I thought we showed a real identity. The big moments went Manchester United’s way and if one of the chances we had in the first half had gone in it could have been a different story.
Vicky Losada is congratulated by her teammates after scoring for Catalunia.
"Overall, I am super proud of the staff and players. We’ve had one 60-minute training session and we worked on a passing and pressing structure and it looked like what we wanted it to look like for large parts of the game and I can’t ask for much more than that."
Albion are back in action on Wednesday when they host Aston Villa in the quarter-final of the Conti Cup at the Broadfield Stadium and Harris is looking forward to improving on the positive aspects of Sunday's performance.
"I think we can build on this," he added. "We have to rise to the challenge, recover really well and be prepared for Wednesday. After a defeat you always want another game to put things right. We have two cup games this week and we’re excited for them. The girls need to keep believing in what we’re trying to do."
