Yasin Ayari is enjoying the cut and thrust of Championship football, and the fact that the second tier is so open.
The Sweden midfielder is on a season-long loan with Coventry City and came on as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 3-1 win over QPR, having scored his first goal for the Sky Blues in last week’s 1-1 draw against Huddersfield.
“It’s a good level, high intensity, good players in every team and I’ve noticed that you cannot go out to a game and think you can beat this team one hundred percent,” he told Coventry’s website. “It feels like everyone can beat the everyone, but I think we’re a really good team and I think I can develop a lot.
“First and foremost, I came here to play that's the most important thing. I don't think too much about scoring 20 goals or making 20 assists. I just came here to play, to enjoy and to get more confidence and to get more experience and that's the main target for me right now. When you do that the goals and the assists will come as a bonus.”
Ayari could face an Albion team-mate on Wednesday when Andrew Moran’s Blackburn Rovers visit the Ricoh Arena. Moran scored twice in the Carabao Cup win over Cardiff City last week but Rovers were brought back down to earth on Sunday, losing 4-1 at home to leaders Leicester with Moran playing the 90 minutes.
Carl Rushworth kept a clean sheet for Swansea City in their 3-0 win at Millwall while Jeremy Sarmiento came on midway through the second half as West Brom ended Preston’s unbeaten start with a 4-0 win at Deepdale, their best result since the final day of the 2021/22 campaign.
There were mixed fortunes for our loanees in action in League One.
Jensen Weir played 63 minutes in Blackpool’s 1-0 win at Barnsley while Marc Leonard helped Northampton to a 2-0 victory at Exeter City. James Beadle made an important second-half save when his Oxford team led Stevenage 2-1 and they went on to complete a 3-1 victory,  and could go top if they beat Shrewsbury tonight and leaders Portsmouth slip up at home to Wycombe.
In Scotland, Abdullah Sima was again on target for Rangers but his goal was a consolation in a 3-1 Ibrox defeat to Aberdeen which cost manager Michael Beale his job.
In Europe, Deniz Undav scored two second-half goals – his first for the club - to help Stuttgart beat FC Koln 2-0 which lifted them into second place in the Bundesliga.
Kjell Scherpen kept another clean sheet for Sturm Graz in their 1-0 victory over WSG Tirol which kept them second in the Austrian Bungesliga while Kacper Kowlowski helped Vitesse to a 3-1 victory at NEC in the Eredivisie as they ended a run of four defeats to climb to 13th in the table.
Bailey Smith completed 90 minutes for Worthing as they reached the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup with two goals from former Albion striker Jake Robinson in their 2-1 win over Whitehawk.
